...And Schnitzel with Noodles...

So as a process of trying to better my health, I have allowed myself one splurge day. I was reading a health article that said splurge is a more appropriate word as opposed to "cheat," because you are not cheating the system, you're still taking in that many more calories, you're just allowing yourself to indulge a tad.
My mom called me at the beginning of last week and asked if I wanted to go antique shopping with her, Katie (my sister), and Grandma and then get bread pudding at Haus Murphy's. I couldn't possibly pass up the bread pudding, so it was decided Saturday was my designated splurge day.
The picture doesn't quite do it justice, but here it is.
Haus Murphy's is this authentic German restaurant located in historic Glendale. My mother heard about it once, because it has the old bar from the movie Murphy's Romance in it. I haven't even seen it, so I wouldn't even know if this is true, and the restaurant doesn't make a point of telling you this. They have an outdoor biergarten that makes you feel like you're back in Germany as well as staff dressed in lederhosen and yodeling playing throughout the place. The menu is almost entirely in German, but when I sat down to order all I had to know was the word schnitzel. When I traveled to Europe for my senior year, my favorite meal throughout the entire trip was schnitzel in Austria. I had never tried German schnitzel before, but I knew I couldn't possibly be disappointed. I ended up going with the paprika schnitzel and German potato salad. The plate was amazing. The potato salad had a vinegar flavor, obviously German and the pork schnitzel was finely pounded with a light breading. Although I was expecting spicy with the word paprika, it wasn't spicy at all. It was more of a light salty flavor. The waitress came over and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. My mom replied excitedly, "we don't need the dessert menu, we all came here specifically for your bread pudding."
It was even better than I remembered. Nice and warm with raisins and vanilla sauce. Then a sweet dollop of whipped cream. I couldn't decide whether I wanted to scarf it down while it was all still warm, or take my time and enjoy every bite. It's safe to say I found the happy medium. Germans definitely know what's good. I'm proud to be a descendant.
